Sweeties from Nara

Here is something I bought in Nara... As this city is known for its deers, you can see a drawing of it on the packaging.

So let me describe what it is : Peanuts covered with chocolate. It's very crispy, and actually not bad at all ! Well, there's nothing really particular to tell about it...

Just disappointed I didn't open this in class, because it is something to share with everybody...

Sweet Kuri

Today (for our last weekend in Japan) I went to Yokohama. There is a Chinatown and one of the tenants of the many shops gave us a "Kuri" which is a chestnut. In France we can also eat them (they are grilled but not sweet like that one).

It was nice to taste...particularly when the weather is cold.

I would like to dedicate this entry to my mummy who used to buy chestnut for us after school...Miss you :(

Flower Candies

These cute candies have been bought in Asakusa.

What do you think of them ? There are different flavours : Sakura, Cranberries, Green Tea, Lemon...

Look at the packaging, the Japanese always care about that...

Sweet Potato

Here is something that I used to see in Sailormoon...Grilled Sweet Potatoes. So in my mind, Japanese people like that and it is part of their culture. Of course, when I saw this man, selling them, I absolutely wanted my own...

My opinion : Hard to take the skin away..Hard to eat...but had to taste it anyway right ?

Tako Yaki

This is a special post in my blog...

That is nor a dessert or something sweet but I wanted to share it with you (Personal discovery)!

However, as it is a small snack...

Tako Yaki are Specialties from Osaka made of Octopus inside a ball of rice. Personally I thought it was good, but I know that all of us didn't like it (I won't give names haha).

You can buy them in the street in small stands, they do it in front of you and you can say what sauces you want...

The Real Green Tea

Here is the real Japanese Ocha served with small pastries. (in Ginkakuji for 500 yen)

They were very dry...and inside one of them, there was something sweet and salted at the same time. It was so strange...And the tea (look at its amazing green colour !!!) was so bitter that I still needed some water after having eaten everything.

Well, I guess it was an experiment that I had to do being in Japan...! Thank you Tipi for sharing this moment with me...And thank you Arnold for the pics ;)

Pastry Erasers

Hello all ! Just wanted to put something funny....Those things look real Japanese pastries but I didn't taste them (yeah I am not so crazy...). Actually, they are rubbers and I thought they were very cute !

NB : You may notice that even if I didn't eat what is on the picture, I tasted most of the equivalences of these...

Japanese Fries

In Osaka, a good friend made us taste something called "Miyazaki no Potatoe". Strange name ! I thought it had something to do with the famous Hayao Miyazaki but not at all...It's only about the city's name !

So it looks like French fries, but it is sweet, completely dry so it is crispy, and not bad at all actually...

It is made with Sweet Potatoes and covered with sugar again I think, because my fingers were sticky after that. I hope I'll see that again so I will buy some for my family !

Cri-Cri

I just spent an unbelievable week end in Kyoto and I discovered great things. In the way to Kiyomizu dera, we bought some cookies made of rice and cinnamon. It was crispy and it is called "Yatsu Hashi" because the shape looks like a bridge...Funny isn't it ? ...

It was tasty, and it was also nice to see them make them... But I was thinking about something : it must be delicious with ice cream...(Green Tea flavour of course !).

Green Tea Roll

Do you remember the Swiss Roll ?

Here is...The GREEN TEA Roll...!! I chose it because of its "physical" aspect (yeah, I'm still talking about a pastry)...It didn't seem common and you know me, I just wanted to eat it once...

Conclusion : just a slight taste of green tea...But after having eaten, I needed a drink ! The cake completely dried my throat ! (thank you Arnold for the "Mountain Dew" !!)

Special Ice Cream

After a good dinner with friends, here is a nice dessert : Vanilla Ice Cream with Red Beans and Green Tea Sauce....(Do you think that all the Japanese desserts are made with these ingredients ?) This wasn't bad actually, but you might say I am getting used of eating strange Jap things so I can't determine what differ from the Western taste anymore...

Well honestly having spent almost one month in Tokyo, I can say that I've adapted myself to my new way of life...
